Artist's Comments

This is an image that came to me recently that I really wanted to do. I'm still hoping I can talk Robin into doing it in wallpaper proportions, though. ^_^ He totally rocked the colors/shading/arrangement on this pic, I must say. In particular, the different styles of shading depending on the material/skin type.

What you have here is some fan art to the current huge story going on in DC Comic's "Green Lantern" books. I won't go into too much detail, but a little bit of explanation is in order. Basically, there is an emotional "spectrum" in the universe. I wanted to pick Wotch characters that would fit nicely into those different corps. In spectrum order, we have:

Cassie as a Red Lantern: Red is fueled by rage, and we've seen how Cassie's magic has strong emotional ties, particularly her anger. I took some artistic license here. In the actual story, a red lantern loses their rational mind as well as vomits up their blood to be replaced by the rage-red power. I...didn't want to draw that, so I used the admittedly more stereotypical "rage=fire" approach. Incidentally, I think I like her costume the best.

Blackbeak as an Orange Lantern: Orange is powered by Avarice. Blackbeak is a pirate, so I figured that greed plays into his motivation a bit more than your average hero. There were a few candidates for the orange power, but I wanted to give a little representation of the cosmic-scope of Green Lantern stories by not having each member be human.

The Uricarn Demon as a Yellow Lantern (Sinestro Corps): Yellow is the color of fear. Those who inspire great fear are chosen by the Sinestro Corps as soldiers of disaster. Uricarn was kind of a no brainer. He thrives on fear and he adds a great "alien" look for the picture.

Anne as a Green Lantern: Green is the force of willpower. I chose Anne for the obvious reason that she's the main star of the comic, but also because she has the willpower focus in using her magic. It fit, even though in the comic she's chaos-powered, of course. Incidentally, I went through three costume designs for her. Ultimately went with the simplest. Probably my least favorite (which might be considered ironic. ;) )

Robin as a Blue Lantern: Blue is the power of hope. Blue Lanterns primarily serve to inspire and assist Green Lanterns, so Robin was the obvious choice. I like his costume a lot, as it both captures the feel of a Blue Lantern while also referencing his martial arts training.

Myrrh as a member of the Indigo Tribe: Indigo is the color of compassion. Myrrh fit that bill as well as giving another unique, inhuman look to the group. She's always difficult to draw/ink/color/shade, but almost always is worth it in the end. :)

Sonja as a Violet Lantern (Star Sapphire): Violet is the power of love, but really I just picked Jason/Sonja because it's funny. :D Plus the TG value: currently all Star Sapphires are women, so...what happens if their new rings pick a guy? You all can guess my hope! hehe.

Xaos as a Black Lantern: Black is the power of death. I picked Xaos because, well, he's the big baddie. That's about it, really.

In brightest day, in blackest night.....I hope you like this little extra.

(All the Lantern aspects, etc, are copyright to DC Comics, of course)

Oh, pretty much the same responses as I made on the forum. =3 I'm still all about those Star Sapphire boots.

Separate the whites from the colours? What are you, a laundry racist?

I like the design of the lizard creature thing in the Sinestro Corps outfit.

Prof. Farnsworth: When you create a parallel universe, it's almost always populated by evil twins.

Bart: I'm not a nerd, I'm a jock who's too cool for sports!

Washington: (after grenade sticks to wall) That... was the worst throw ever. Of all time.

This is currently my favorite Wotch Filler. Incredible work.

I just want to point out on thing about the orange power. There's really only one true orange lantern. His name is Larfleeze, he also goes by the name "Agent Orange." Since his power is greed itself, he doesn't like sharing with others. In fact, he has anyone who tries to take his power killed and eaten. Once consumed, they become part of this collective of damned souls within the orange light and living energy construct slaves to the hungers of Agent Orange. It's pretty freaky.

I figured someone would make this point. Blackbeak is the holder of the Orange Lantern in the Wotch universe, so he can be the one and only there, or whatever he'd end up doing with it.
:iconannie13:
While my answer isn't as elaborate as Robin's, my point is the same. Larfleeze isn't a Wotch character, so for the sake of the picture, there's another Orange Lantern. Just like how for the picture, Cassie's Red-power is fire, not blood. Because ew. ;D

NEat. You do know taht Blue Lanterns are powerless without a Green Lantern in the vacinity right?
